INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS YOU’LL WANT TO TRY IN 2024!

INTERIOR DESIGN TRENDS YOU’LL WANT TO TRY IN 2024!

Green and natural wood grain finishes, dedicated beverage stations, rounded furniture, and textured walls are among the interior design trends you may want to incorporate into your home this year.

Let’s kick off our trend report with the heart of the home and the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s (NKBA) 2024 Kitchen Trends Report. Its survey of kitchen experts lists the following as among key trends:

Colors and materials. Green tops the list of color trends. Gold faucets trump stainless and black, with matte, brushed and satin finishes topping must-have lists. Gold, bronze, and copper are the most popular finishes for lighting fixtures and sinks. Meanwhile, demand for textured backsplashes and honed and matte finishes on countertops is on the rise.

Dedicated beverage stations. More than half of survey respondents want a dedicated beverage station in the kitchen, whether for wine, smoothies, or coffee and more drink-focused storage in pantries and refrigerators.

Large islands. As homes get smaller, about half of designers say clients are opening their floor plans to feature eat-in kitchens with a maximized island rather than closed-off, formal dining rooms. While 57 percent of survey respondents prefer an eat-in kitchen, about 20 per cent say
stand-alone kitchen tables are an outgoing trend.

Functionality. Usability is the No. 1 goal across almost all kitchen categories, including storage and organization. Desirable designs include larger pantries, customizable storage in cabinets and drawers, and built-in kitchen tools.

Quiet kitchens. The kitchen is as quiet as it’s ever been, with designers eliminating noisy appliances and banging cabinet doors. Many designers are opting for ultra-quiet dishwashers and soft push-to-open cabinet technology, making the environment even more suitable for
everything from entertaining to working.

Layered lighting. Homeowners want layered lighting to create ambiance and enable them to keep harsh overhead lighting turned off.

PINTEREST PREDICTS

Pinners are putting the ‘kitsch’ in what Pinterest has dubbed ‘kitchens,’ reimagining the heart of the home as they bid farewell to traditional farmhouse décor, according to Pinterest Predicts, the platform’s annual ‘not-yet-trending’ trend report.

Gen X and boomers, in particular, will elevate their kitchen design and cooking areas with thrift buys, vintage appliances, and eye-jarring paint pops as they look for eclectic kitchen décor, kitschy kitchens, retro pink kitchens, and more. Pinterest’s ‘cheat sheet’ for 2024 includes the following trends:

Western gothic. Searches for ‘Western gothic’ – described as a mix of vintage Americana chic with deep, moody blues – increased by 145 percent last year, leading Pinterest to predict everyone from Gen Z to boomers will embrace “sultry touches” like dark fringing and even darker paints in their homes.

Café core. Boomers and Gen X are embracing the coffee shop vibe, but this trend is more than just a coffee maker or French press. Pinners are setting up in-home café menus by searching for ‘café chalkboards’ and perfecting their coffee stations by searching for ‘coffee station décor’ and ‘coffee bar styling.’

Hot metals. Cool silver tones and bold chrome are becoming mainstream. Searches for ‘aluminum furniture’ and ‘aluminum door designs’ have increased.

Aquatecture. Aquatic architecture is also poised to become a hot new home trend as Gen X and millennials become ‘undersea gardeners.’ Their searches include ‘fish tank themes ideas,’ ‘small aquarium designs,’ ‘turtle terrarium ideas,’ and ‘planted fishbowl.

OTHER HOME DÉCOR TRENDS
Colours. Illumina, Cracked Pepper, Blue Nova, and Limitless are some of the names of 2024 Colours of the Year, as featured in one of our previous blogs.
(www.kinghometeam.com/Fallcomesalivewithcolour). Pantone has since entered the home décor market, declaring Peach Fuzz (www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year/2024), a velvety, gentle peach tone, its color of the year.

Furniture with curves. Rounded furniture will remain popular this year, along with rounded rugs and other décor accessories, alcoves, and archways. Not ready to fully commit to the trend? Add a rounded mirror to a space.

LED lighting. Thanks to its versatility, the popularity of LED lighting continues to grow. Greenery, natural elements. Embrace this trend with live plants or images of greenery on textiles. On the renovation side, add more oversized windows and glass to capture nature and more natural light.

Soft modern. This style focuses on clean style, soft shapes, and natural textures. It’s a trend but also influences other home décor elements. This uncluttered and natural style helps to create space for contemplation. More patterns in tiles and textiles. Homeowners are adding unique wall and floor elements to
their home, including paneling and wallpaper.
